Alternative rock newcomer Natalie Claro brings a new sound to the Queen classic, "Somebody to Love." Her cover is not only beautiful and does the song great justice, but Claro’s reasoning for covering the Queen ballad makes the piece that much more beautiful. In an attempt to showcase Queen’s iconic sound and to cover one of her idols, Claro made the decision to cover "Somebody to Love." While the influence of Freddie Mercury is obvious throughout the cover, Claro brings her own originality to the song with a bit of a jazzy, angsty vocalization to the lyrics. Her raspy, rock-like vocals and addition of the electric guitar give a sense of originality to the widely-covered song. While the cover is only a small look into Claro’s apparent talent and wide vocal range, it gives listeners a sense of what to look for in her next projects. Be sure to check out her spotify and social media accounts, and give her album, Disconnect a listen (it’s pretty damn amazing).
