Oldies but Goodies
Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion (2015)
Its not that old but this is my section so I will do as I please. This game is so adorable it will scare the shit out of you. Seriously. The goal of the game is simple: get through a thousand floors of Spooky’s design. In execution, it creates gameplay scenarios which challenge and raise the anxiety of the player to the breaking point. This is one of those Steam gems that you have to tell your friends about. Clear a few rooms to the next save point, save, and go on about your day. With procedurally generated rooms and a winning art-style, Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion deserves your attention.
Silent Hill 2
What is wrong with you? Play this game. Play it. Not the HD remake that gets rid of the fog. The original on Playstation 2. Find a way. This game is a piece of art which should be played by everyone. Sex and death intertwine to make a story which will chill your spine and finding every secret will make you dive deeper into the maddening depths of Silent Hill. You can't run from your past, but you can enjoy the past. Play this game.
Current Games (2017):
Obselver
Horror. Check. Dialogue wheel. Check. Cyberpunk setting. Jesus, didn't have to go in for the hard sell. You play as detective Daniel Lazarski, investigating the slums of the city Krakow. This neo-noir has style, a great soundtrack, and Rutger Hauer. If you want to be so scared your sanity falls away like tears in the rain, give this game a shot.
Perception
This horror game has your standard cliche set up: girl in a spooky mansion. Where it differs is its decision to have you playable character be Cassie, a blind girl. The Deep End Games decided to take the risk of limiting the player’s vision, relying on echolocation to get a brief handle on your surroundings. While not for everyone, I would at least give this game a fair shake.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
This game here is what you get when a developer truly cares. Ninja Theory worked closely with neuroscientists and non-profits to create an accurate psychological horror action adventure game with a respectful representation of psychosis. If you like a cinematic experience, this is for you.
Around the Corner:
We Happy Few:
This little retrofuturistic piece has plays on a world of drug addiction. Happy huh. But these drugs are as the kids say “lit”(I don't know man). Imagine ecstasy and PCP had a murder baby. And now those babies want to make people kill you. But you can eat the babies too. This analogy has spiraled out of control. Look forward to this in 2018.
Bonus Stage:
I decided to add this section independently as, previously stated, I own this section. So let’s get intimate. This section will be the one I use to spout my opinions on video games and what have you. So without further ado… Capcom, what is your plan with Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. I tried to sell it for you. You ruined it and therefore put my name on the line. But you released a shell of a fighting game. I get it. DLC is a thing now and it can net a lot of money and lengthen the lifespan of your game. But you aren't Killer Instinct. You don’t have the base to sell us. And that god-awful collector’s edition looked like a basket of Easter eggs. You need to clean up. Arc System Works is out there, grinding. A new KOF is just around the bend. I want you to be great again.
